Abstract

Perampanel (PER) is the antiepileptic drug (AED), effect of which on sleep in Russian Federation has not been studied.

Objective: to assess changes in sleep quality, daytime sleepiness, and polysomnographic (PSG) characteristics of night sleep in patients with pharmacoresistant focal epilepsy, after PER inclusion in the treatment regimen as an additional PEP.

Patients and methods: 12 people aged 21-49 years (4 men and 8 women) with pharmacoresistant epilepsy receiving multiple PEP therapy, which initiated PER. PSG research and questionnaires were performed before initiation of PER therapy and 1 month after the treatment start.

Results. On the background of PER therapy, after 1 month there was an increase in the quality of night sleep in 5 cases and a decrease in daytime sleepiness in 6. The PSG structure was stable in 3 patients, worsened in 1, improved in 8.

Conclusion. PER therapy in half of cases improves the quality of night sleep and reduces daytime sleepiness with confirmation by improvement in PSG structure in 40% of patients.
