In 1980 V.A. Parfenov graduated with honors from the Faculty of General Medicine, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, and then he was educated in its Clinical Residency and PhD Courses at the Department of Nervous System Diseases.

He defended his Candidate’s Dissertation “The functional status of spinal centers in patients with acute cerebrovascular accident” in 1986 and his Doctor’s Dissertation “Impaired hemodynamics in cerebrovascular diseases and ways of its correction” in 1993. Since 1985, V.A. Parfenov was at the Department of Nervous System Diseases, first as a researcher, then as Associate Professor. Since 1994 he was as Professor. Since 2012, he has been acting as Head of the Department of Nervous System Diseases and Director of the Clinic of Nervous System Diseases, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.

 

His scientific work is devoted to cerebrovascular diseases and prevention of ischemic stroke, as well as to vascular cognitive impairments, dizziness, and nonspecific back pains. V.A. Parfenov actively participates in international researches and investigations, including multicenter randomized studies. He has supervised 10 Candidate’s Dissertations. He regularly makes scientific reports and gives lectures on the topical issues of neurology for physicians.

 

V.A. Parfenov is the editor-in-chief of the journal “Nevrologiya, Neiropsikhiatriya i Psikhosomatika” (Neurology, Neuropsychiatry, and Psychosomatics) and a member of the Editorial Board of the journals “Klinicheskaya Gerontologiya” (Clinical Gerontology), “Nevrologicheskiy Zhurnal” (Neurological Journal), and “Bolezni Serdtsa i Sosudov” (Diseases of the Heart and Vessels). He takes an active part in the work of the National Stroke Association, the Moscow Society of Neurologists, the All-Russian Society of Neurologists, and the Moscow Society of Therapists (Angiology Section).

 

V.A. Parfenov is the author of more than 20 scientific and educational works.

 

He has been awarded the Gratitude of the Rector of the First Moscow State Medical University.
